Kejriwal Resigns as CM, Urges Early Assembly Elections in Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Makes Surprising Resignation Announcement

In a dramatic turn of events, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, revealed his intention to step down from his position within 48 hours. This announcement came mere days after his release from prison on bail. Kejriwal cited his desire to let the people of Delhi decide on his integrity through early Assembly elections.

Addressing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Sunday, Kejriwal declared, “I will relinquish my duties as Chief Minister, pending the public’s verdict on my honesty. A new leader will be chosen from among our MLAs to serve as interim Chief Minister until elections are held.”

Kejriwal justified his resignation, stating it was essential to “protect democracy” and thwart alleged attempts by the BJP to destabilize the AAP through MLA poaching and Opposition Chief Ministers’ arrests. He urged non-BJP Chief Ministers to resist resignation, even in the face of fake cases and imprisonment, emphasizing the importance of upholding the Constitution, country, and democratic principles.

A key meeting is scheduled at Kejriwal’s residence, attended by AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The gathering is expected to discuss the party’s future leadership and strategy.

This development has significant implications for Delhi politics and the AAP’s future. As the national capital prepares for early elections, all eyes are on Kejriwal’s successor and the party’s ability to maintain its stronghold.
