Arvind Kejriwal Appeals to Delhi High Court Contesting ED Arrest and Remand in Excise Policy Case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Files Petition with Delhi High Court Contesting Enforcement Directorate (ED) Arrest in Connection with Delhi Excise Policy Case and Subsequent Trial Court Remand Order.

Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 around 9 PM, Kejriwal faced a trial court remand order until March 28. The Aam Aadmi Party’s legal team argues in the plea that both the arrest and remand are unlawful, asserting Kejriwal’s immediate release. Following his arrest by the central probe agency, Kejriwal appeared before the trial court, an event that unfolded shortly after a division bench of the Delhi High Court declined to issue interim protection orders against coercive actions.

Previously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) lodged two criminal complaints against Kejriwal in the Rouse Avenue Courts of the city, alleging his failure to comply with summons. Kejriwal maintained his stance of disregarding the summons, asserting their illegitimacy. The ED’s accusations revolve around the implementation of the excise policy, which they claim was orchestrated to grant certain private companies a significant 12 per cent profit margin in the wholesale business, despite no such provision being documented in the Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting minutes. Additionally, the central agency alleges a conspiracy masterminded by Vijay Nair and other individuals, working in tandem with the South Group, to afford wholesalers extraordinary profit margins. Nair purportedly acted on behalf of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.
