Foreign Students Reportedly Attacked at Gujarat University Hostel over Ramzan prayers, 4 injured

Four foreign students residing at Gujarat University’s international boys’ hostel in Ahmedabad were injured in an attack by a mob late Saturday night, reportedly sparked by their observance of Ramadan prayers. Police have filed an FIR and are currently investigating the incident. Two of the students sustained severe injuries, while all four are currently recuperating in a hospital, with their conditions reported to be stable and out of danger.

Initial reports suggest that international students hailing from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh were allegedly attacked while performing late-night prayers on Saturday at a location designated by Gujarat University within the international boys’ hostel block-A. Videos purportedly depicting the incident, circulated on X, also show individuals vandalizing motorcycles.

The assault took place on Saturday night within the confines of the Block A hostel. According to foreign students residing in the hostel, individuals from the Block B hostel approached them and demanded that they refrain from conducting Ramadan prayers anywhere within the hostel premises.
